Glassmaking In Slovakia

The glass industry of Slovakia is one of the longest-standing and most important sectors of the country's economy. It is a sector that is stable and that has been in existence for over 650 years. The first glassworks in the territory covered by what is now Slovakia, was established at Sklene Teplice in 1350. Further ones were set up in the 17th and 18th centuries and in its most prosperous and extensive period the glassmaking industry of Slovakia supported more than 100 active factories. Since then, however, the history of Slovakia has been a complicated one.
