The development of glass working from the time of the Roman Emperors and up to the early middle ages is described and it is shown how the invention of the glass blowers iron opened up new possibilities of shaping. With the aid of examples it is shown how the cold working of glass in the form of grinding, engraving and chasing made remarkable progress in that epoch. In those times the forming of glass reached a perfection that has been retained to this day.
