Glass Tableware - India Faces Import Onslaught

The economic reforms that have taken place in India in recent years have proved a great help in permitting many foreign companies to enter the country and market their products effectively. Indeed, many of these companies are now doing extremely good business within India. Of course in many instances, domestically produced products are still considerably cheaper than imported products, and as a result Indian goods are quite capable of beating off competition from outside the country. However, in sectors where Indian industry has yet to achieve maturity and is still lagging behind its overseas counterparts in terms of technical capability, imported products remain in the ascendancy. One such industry is glass tableware, and in this article the developments that are taking place in this expanding sector are assessed.
