Glass Strengthening By Polymer-Derived Ceramic Coatings

Polysilazne-derived ceramic coatings in the form of thin films, fabricated by dipcoating soda-lime rods with preceramic polymer solutions, followed by pyrolysis, increased the strength of glass rods up up levels 2.3 and 3.3 times higher than the strength of uncoated/annealed and as-received rods respectively.
