According to the latest results from Italian glass industry association, Assovetro, in 2014, Italy's general production of glass containers (large and small bottles, jars and household articles) amounted to 3,625,905/tonnes; an increase of approximately 1% over the same period 2013. The quantity of large bottles manufactured for mineral waters, wine, oil etc amounted to 3,088,656 tonnes, an increase of around 0.6% compared with the same period the previous year. Production of small bottles for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and perfumery industries was also up (143,671/tonnes), an increase of 1.7% in 2014 over 2013. The industry's output of food jars, which amounted to 235,135/tonnes, recorded an increase of 0.27% in comparison with the same period 2013. Finally, at 158,391/tonnes, the household glassware (tableware) sector showed an increase of around 7% in comparison with 2013.
