Food packaging presents several properties and attributes that are essential to the food science and technology. Although many industries have replaced glass packaging by plastic or metal packaging, glass containers seem to be irreplaceable in the production of numerous products. In addition to performing an important role in marketing, glass packaging provides several important properties for food safety, food preservation, and also for the preservation of the sensorial attributes of products. Nevertheless, it presents some limitations that should be further studied in order to completely develop its potential and improve the feasibility of the product and the production process.
