The ternary system B203-Pb0-CuO was investigated to determine the extent of glass forming regions, as multicomponent glasses based on this system find many industrial applications, particularly as solder materials. More than 100 compositions, were melted in platinum crucibles in electric furnaces. The samples were annealed after forming. XRD was used to differentiate between glass, partially crystalline and entirely crystalline compositions as some compositions were opaque or intensely coloured. Results indicated that the crucibles used for melting can have a significant effect on the forming tendency of some of the compositions. The main visual and XRD characteristics of compositions belonging to each region were considered.
