Glass Fixation - Introducing Laminar Glass Bonding, An Innovative New Technology

Seele Sedak and Sika collaborated to jointly develop a novel silicone application for laminar processing. The result of this development is a composite product comprising of a glass panel, a silicone adhesive layer and a load transferring metal panel. Utilising the laminar silicone application allows the use of glass in overhead situations without any visible mechanical fixings, creating a large uniform opaque glass surface. This paper describes the process that led to the development, followed by a description of the mechanical and physical properties of the silicone adhesive. Further, aspects related to structural design and semi-automated line production are presented.
