Glass Defects Caused By Raw Material Contamination

The main raw materials for glassmaking are: silica sand; soda ash and limestone. Soda-lime-silica glass compositions account for around 90% of all glass melts. Nevertheless, more than 20 industrial minerals are used in glass making and all of them, minor ingredients included, are important and critical for the physical-chemical properties of the final product. This article takes a detailed look at defects caused by raw material contamination.
