Glass Currents In Continuous Tank Furnaces

The origin of thermal currents in glass tank furnaces is discussed and reviewed. Methods used for studying and gaining information concerning the subject are taken up. Attention is given to the effects of glass currents on: Melting time and efficiency; The life of tank blocks; The presence of stones and cords, and homogeneity. Modern trends in tank furnace design for the elimination of the deleterious influences of thermal glass currents are discussed.
