Glass-Ceramic Protective Coating For Titanium Alloys

A glass-ceramic coating that protects a titanium alloy against oxidation during heat treatment has been successfully developed. In this study, the conditions for preparing this glass-ceramic coating were investigated. In addition, the prepared coating was characterized by X-ray diffractometry, energy-dispersive spectroscopy analysis, and oxygen weight-gain testing. The results showed that the glass-ceramic coating has excellent oxygen-proof properties to protect the titanium alloy from oxidation by the atmosphere at high temperatures.
