Saint-Gobain (SG) has confirmed that as part of its solar power growth strategy, its subsidiary Avancis will build a new plant for the production of photovoltaic (PV) modules. The site will be located in Torgau, Germany, & will be Avancis second facility in the country for thin-film CIGS photovoltaic panels. The group is already present in this location through Saint-Gobain Glass & Saint-Gobain Sekurit. The new plant will have a production output of 100MWp/year, an amount that can reportedly accommodate the electricity needs for cities of 15,000 inhabitants. "This project marks a new milestone in SG's commitment to the renewable energy sector," said Jean-Pierre Floris, Senior VP of SG. "With this plant, SG will boost the industrial development of Avancis & help it become a major reference in the field of high-efficiency thin-film PV modules," he said.
