The German government's decision to go ahead with its energy policy revision plans, the development of renewable energies and the associated increase in electricity prices has resulted in the energy-intensive manufacturing sectors becoming targets for criticism. The relief provided to these industries criticised as unfair in the debate, particularly by consumers. However, following the downturn experienced in 2012, 2013 has witnessed a moderate improvement in the country's fortunes.
