Energy saving and packing life are two major areas of glass furnace efficiency improvement. In the last 35 years, fuel consumption has decreased by 75% from 500g/kg of glass in 1960 down to an average of 120g/kg of glass in 1995. Furnace life has now been extended up to more than 12 years. As a result, a glassmaker's requirements have moved as far as refractory products are concerned. SEPR has developed new fused cast products able to meet all these new requirements, either in soda-lime or special glass, such as TV glass, lead glass or borosilicate glass.
