[Furnace Design] To Bubble Or To Barrier Boost: That Is The Question

Despite its simple appearance, a glass melting furnace is actually a very complex entity. Whatever type of furnace is considered, there is an intricate distribution of temperatures in both the glass bath and the furnace structure. This, in turn, results in a complex arrangement of convection currents int eh glass bath and these have a profound influence onto he successful operation of the furnace. In this article, Richard Sims analysis the influence of both a bubbling system and a barrier boosting system as a means of strengthening glass currents.
