Foam glass is a lightweight construction material that contains a high volume fraction of small, homogeneously-distriubted gas bubbles which are sealed and separated from each other by very thin glass lamella. Foamed glass has existed as a material for many years and because of its properties it is being increasingly sued for a number of applications. Foam glass in the form of gravel, with a grain size of 0-60mm or 0-90mm, can be applied for heat insulation in various forms. Some applications it can be used for are: perimeter insulation; garden & landscape engineering; road, railway & piping substructures; foundations; noise protection. In addition to its heat insulation capability in dry & wet environments, it also allows water drainage. With around 100kWh/m3 foam glass gravel, the energy requirement for production of foam from glass powder is low.
