Fluorine Content In Opal Glasses

The soft fluorine opal glass described by Thiene in Glass, vol 2, p906, is discussed critically. This has a fluorine content of 11.2% whereas normal flourine opals have contents of 4-7%. In the authors view glasses with contents above 7% have a detremental effect on the refractories and is uneconomical.
