Fluorescence Spectra Of Trivalent Europia In Borosilicate Glasses.

The fluorescence excitation and emission spectra, and absorption spectra of trivalent europium in several series of borosilicate glasses were investigated. Thermal quenching from LN2 temperature to above room temperature and concentration quenching were also studied. The spectra are related to various europium-glass interactions and changes of host glass structure. Small amounts of U2O3 improved fluorescence brightness for both ultraviolet and cathode ray excitation by an order of magnitude without significant changes in the Eu3+ emission spectra.
