This article looks at the history of flat glass starting with sheet glass made by the crown process, then by the cylinder process. It then moves on to the 17th century when the casting process came along. Plates were ground and polished. During the first half of the 20th century, numerous manufacturing methods were finalised: machine cylinder method, vertical and horizontal drawing, continuous rolling, continuous grinding and polishing. And at the beginning of the 1960s, Pilkington developed the float process.
