First Structural Insight Of New Fluoroarsenate Glasses By Raman And Nmr Spectroscopies

A new glass in the fluoroaresnate family has been fabricated. Because of the presence of arsenic, these glasses show lower phonon energies than their fluorophosphate counterparts. In a previous study, the optical behaviour of Nd3+ ions was investigated in this matrix. In this paper, a first structural insight is proposed on these new glasses through Raman and NMR spectroscopies. It appears that the glass network may be built up from (AsO3F) and (AsO2F2) tetrahedra coupled with (YO6F2) polyhedra. The connections are done preferentially via oxygen bridges, the fluorine ions remaining unshared.
