Ferric Iron Species In Alkali Aluminosilicate Glasses During Fusion

The luminescence spectra of Fe3+ in alkali aluminosilicate glasses indicate that several species of Fe3+ are present during early stages of melting. On heat treatment for about 20 hours at 1400 degrees C, the spectra simplify to a single species interpreted as Fe3+ in the glass-forming network.
