The susceptibility of ceramic materials to mechanical cyclic fatigue is examined from two viewpoints: the materials scientist is interested in understanding the mechanisms which control the fatigue behaviour in a ceramic, while the engineer needs to be able to obtain meaningful fatigue parameters which can be used in design against cyclic fatigue failure.
