Fast, Radiation-Hard Scintillating Detector: A Potential Application For Sol-Gel Glass

The procedure for preparing monolithic organic/inorganic composite materials by doping the silica gels with organic fluors is described. Preliminary results indicate that the new technology will permit the creation of materials with potential applications such as particle detectors which are both radiation hard and fast.
