Examination Of The Leachability Of Pg-Glass

The leachability of PG-glass, which was developed to vitrify polyvinyl chloride (PVC) waste from nuclear power plants, has been investigated using the toxic characterisation leaching procedure (TCLP) and modified product consistency test (M-PCT) methods. PG-glass was quite resistant to leaching with an acceptable TCLP performance. The heavy metals, Pb, Zn, Ba, Cd and Cr, were successfully immobilised in PG glass. The M-PCT results indicated that the surface exchange process dominated the glass corrosion.
