Evolution Of Glass Batch And Chemical Composition Of Champagne Bottles During The Xxth Century (In French)

During the first half of the 20th century, after the first world war during which many glassmakers died, the process was completely mechanised, from the batch preparation to the annealing of the bottles. This major evolution, similar for all the glass manufacturing processes, was prepared by studies of the chemical compositions to adapt the properties of the material to the machine requirements. During the second half of the century, many important modifications of the bottles were made: weight reduction, increase of cullet recycling; wine anti-UV protection is enhanced, etc.
