Evaporation From Lead Silicate Melts In Dry And Wet Carbon Dioxide Atmosphere

Vaporisation from silicate melts containing PbO was studied by determining the total weight loss following heat treatment of samples of binary glass PbO-Si02, ternary glass K20-Pb0-Si02 and a multi-component commercial crystal glass. The effects of temperature, time and partial pressure of water vapour in flowing atmosphere of carbon dioxide on the vaporisation losses were established. It was found that the vaporisation from all three types of glass melts was decisively affected by temperature.
