The EEA has had a long gestation period, counted in years rather than months, however, on 8 May this year it was formally registered as an organisation to further the quality of vitreous enamel across Europe. The membership of the EEA comprises representatives from the national organisations of Austria, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands and UK. The quality standards required by the EEA have been set out in a manual, which is available in print form or as a CD. Companies wanting to obtain EEA certification will have their production of vitreous enamel audited against the required standard. This audit can be combined with an ISO 9000 audit, or it can be arranged through the IVE/VEA, and can include companies that are not ISO registered, although the audit process for these companies will be more involved and time consuming.
