Eu Minerals Future Euromines Sets The Pace

The European mining industry looks set for a boost in its profile within the EU. Under its 1994-1996 programme, Brussels-based European Association of Mining Industries (Euromines), has oulined a number of priority issues for the rest of this year. Of particular interst, in light of recent mineral dumping issues, will be the outcome of talks with Chinese authorities on possible mineral and metals joint-venture agreements. Elsewhere, proposed revisions of the EU's Environmental Impact Assessment Directive may limit the size of future mining operations to 150,000 tpa.
