This article provides an overview of the EU glass industry in 2013-14. In 2013, EU-28 glass production reached a volume of 33M/tonnes, a decrease by 1.5% compared with 2012 and a global production similar to 2009 levels, showing the persistence of a difficult economic climate. However, this production level keeps the EU as the largest glass producer in the world, with a market share of around one-third of the total world market. Germany remains the EU's biggest producer with about a fifth of the volume, closely followed by France, Spain, Italy and the UK.
