Eu Ban On Mercury Effective

New EU rules banning thermometers and other measuring devices contain ing mercury entered into force at the beginning of October after they were published in the Official Journal (L257/13). According to the Directive, 2007/51/EC "mercury may not be placed on the market in fever thermometers and in other measuring devices intended for sale to the general public." These devices include manometers, barometers and blood-pressure gauges. However, the restriction does not apply to devices thatare already in use or sold second hand. Antique instruments (over 50 years old) will not be affected by the Directive either.
