Addis Ababa Bottle & Glass Co (ABBG) is undertaking a 1.1BN/Br expansion project to meet growing demand. The 40 year-old company, now co-owned by Ethiopian and Chinese investors, is facing rising demand, especially from the brewery industry. Currently, its capacity stands at 30/tpd (20m bottles/pa). With the expansion taking place in three phases, the company eyes a production capacity of 150/tpd (153m bottles/pa). The company is undertaking the expansion of land at its premises near Mickey Leland condominium along Ambo Road. It will finalise the first phase of the expansion in six months, with the remaining two phases expected to take one year. In addition to 360 employees, it will also add a further 328 workers when the project is finished. Prior to the commencement of the expansion, a feasibility study had indicated that there is a demand for 265m bottles/pa in the country.
