How does glass alter with time? This question has been considered for the last hundred years or so in the fields of conservation and archeology to ensure preservation of glass artifacts. However, the same question is part of the development and assessment of durable glass waste forms for the immobilization of nuclear wastes. This article explains how ancient glasses are helping to predict the durability of vitrified nuclear waste.
