Enesco Group Inc., a leader in the giftware, collectible and home decor industries, announced on 22 July/04 the acquisition of Dartington Crystal Ltd by Enesco Ltd, Enesco's UK subsidiary. Dartington Crystal designs and manufactures a full range of uncut crystal products which are currently sold through department stores and upmarket speciality retail outlets. Enesco Ltd paid approximately $7M in cash to acquire substantially all of the assets of the firm. Dartington generated sales of around $16.8M in 2003. The acquisition provides Enesco with an entry point into the uncut crystal market in the UK, Europe and the US. According to Enesco, market trends in the UK are moving towards contemporary formats and away from traditional patterned designs, creating plenty of opportunity for Enesco. The UK glass manufacturing industry is renowned for its quality.
