100% oxy-fuel firing of glass melting furnaces has become a commercially accpeted process in many situations including cases where reductions in NOx or particulate emissions are a priority and where increased production is needed. However, there are still situations hwere the current benefits do not justify conversion from air-fuel to oxy-fuel. This article looks at efforts being made to improve the economics of oxy-fuel melting.
