Energy Liberalisation

From 1 July, 2004, glassmakers in the EU will be free to choose their preferred supplier of energy under the EU's plan to liberalise the gas and electricity markets. Under the plan, the transmission and distribution operations of energy suppliers are to be separated from their energy production activities but member states are free to postpone this move until 2007. Customers now have the right to be supplied with electricity of a specified quality at reasonable prices, and companies will have to supply details of the contribution of each energy source to their fuel mix.
