To reduce energy consumption the UK government has proposed a new industry fuel levy to be placed on power used. Like all energy intensive industries, the glass industry has already made most of the cost effective energy saving investments available to it and the proposed tax, when linked to other current legislation relating to the environment, is likely to seriously damage the UK glass business.
