"Elid" For Efficient Grinding Of Super Smooth Surfaces

This report describes electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID) and discusses how this technique has improved the potential for direct grinding of super smooth surfaces, especially glass and ceramics. Results of ultra precision machining research carried out as part of the UK's Link Nanotechnology Programme are provided to illustrate the potential of this grinding method when utilising an advanced high accuracy CNC machine tool.
