Electrochromic glazing, often called "smart" glazing, can tune its luminous transmission to adapt itself to changes in its external environment. Electrochromic glazing offers improved comfort to the customer and it can be beneficial in terms of energy savings. Over the past 30 years, a number of studies have been performed to develop a product that would both correspond to customer needs and be industrially feasible while also meeting long term durability requirements. This paper gives an overview of the basic characteristics of electrochromic glazing and describes the most recent progress in this domain. The Saint-Gobain group has recently developed a new electrochromic glazing product dedicated to the automotive market, called SGS Lightuning. The properties of this glazing are also briefly discussed.
