Electrical Resistivity Of Glass In Furnaces With Coaxially Mounted Cylindrical Electrodes

A novel hexagonal electric furnace for the production of cullet, rod or tubing made from high melting point glasses has been designed. The furnace is operated on the closed-top principle and is capable of producing 2.5 - 2.8 tonnes/m2/day. Compared with the De Bussy-type furnace, there is no need for a water-jacket or special water cooling system. Empirical formulae derived from cold model studies have been developed for calculating the resistances.
