Electric Melting Of Borosilicate Glasses In A Furnace With Plate Electrodes

Experience in the design and development of an electric furnace for melting borosilicate glass of the Pyrex type at a load of 3 tonnes/day is described. It was found that the use of plate electrodes facilitated uniform heating and that two temperature levels were required in the working end, with the possibility of controlling the power of the upper level over a wide range, in order to produce high-quality glass.
