Egypt'S Glassmaking Sector

This article takes a look at Egypt's glass manufacturing sector. Excluding a number of hand production shops concentrating on tableware, there are at present 19 industrial scale glass manufacturing plants in Egypt, with products ranging from glass packaging to sodium silicate, high quality float glass, tableware, including drinks tumblers, and lead crystal products, including chandeliers. With no central trade association to coordinate the industry's interests, meaningful statistics are hard to come by. However, it is widely acknowledged that glass manufacturing capacity in Egypt, across all sectors is expected to increase around 50% by 2007.
