Effects Of Forming Conditions On Glass Fibre Structures And Properties

This paper reviews recent work on the effect of forming conditions on glass structure and properties. Both silicate and chalcogenide glasses are shown to be strongly influenced by forming, particularly when the conditions approach those associated with "shear thinning". Distinct relaxation peaks, superimposed on a broad sub-Tg exotherm, are observed in Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) of commercial silicate and As2Se3 fibres.
