Effect Of Surface Treatment Of Glass Containers On The Release Torque Of Pilferproof Closures

The application of hot end and cold end surface treatments to glass containers was introduced commercially in the mid-1960's and is now an integrated part of the technology and manufacture of glass containers. Properly surfaced treated containers possess the requisite strength, abrasion resistance and lubricity to enable them to be handled on high speed filling lines, and to be transported in bulk without corrugated or other divisions to protect the bottles from direct glass to glass contact. However, along with the benefits brought about by surface treatment, there have been some counter-productive effects, which are discuss in this paper.
