Effect Of Ion Exchange And Heat Treatment Conditions On The Diffusion Of Silver Into A Soda-Lime-Silica Glass

Silver from AgNO3 melt was exchanged for Na+ ions in commercially available soda-lime-silica glass slabs at temperatures in the range 250-375 deg C for diffusion times of 0.5-2h. Samples ion exchanged at 300 deg C for 1h were treated isothermally at temperatures in the range 350-600 deg C for 1-5h. The resulting concentration profiles were measured by electron microprobe technique and used to calculate the interdiffusion coefficients of Ag by applying Matano-Boltzmann's equation.
