Glass quality depends on several different factors. These include furnace design, refractory choice, raw materials and furnace operation. These 4 factors are strongly inter-related. Choice of refractories is a major parameter which enables achieving optimum glass quality. In-depth understanding of the refractory/glass interaction phenomena, and material behaviour with respect to the industrial operation conditions are essential to defining the best refractory solution for glassmakers, in terms of both corrosion resistance and the quality of the glass.
