Edinburgh Crystal has been confirmed as the new owner of Caithness Glass. In April a spokesman confirmed that Edinburgh Crystal had acquired the Perth, headquarters of Caithness and its small retail outlet at Kings Lynn. The renowned Scottish firm, noted for its paperweights and coloured glass, had gone into receivership. Previous owner, Royal Worcester & Spode, handed the firm over to accountants Deloitte & Touche in February, citing difficult market conditions, had owned the firm for less than three years. The receivers quickly put the business up for sale. 150 Caithness workers risked losing their jobs, as they depend on Caithness being sold as a functioning business. The price paid by Edinburgh was not revealed, but is understood to be a 7-figure sum. Edinburgh Crystal has a turnover of £17.5M and a network of retail outlets run on a franchise basis.
