Eas Security Tagging And The Risks For Glass Recycling

This paper was prepared by the UK Spirits Industry Security Tagging Working Group, and is supported by the Scotch Whisky Association, the Gin & Vodka Association of GB, and the Wine & Spirit Association. The paper gives information for managers of environment policy, and security managers working in the spirits industry and retailing, examining the use of Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) security tagging, particularly the application of self-adhesive security tags by retailers in the store or by manufacturers at source, which is being promoted as a potential solution for product shrinkage. The wine and spirit industry has now become aware of some key issues that need to be considered when decisions are made about the use of self-adhesive security tags on glass bottles because of the potential risk to glass recovery and recycling, as explained here.
