Duties Defined As Soda Ash Debate Continues

A final decision from the European Commission on the anti-dumping duties to be imposed on US soda ash suppliers was announced last October. The final duties agreed are not as high as some feared but there are inevitably concerns that they will distort the market. In this paper both sides of the argument are presented with contributions from John Andrews, Pilkington's head of purchasing (Europe) and Olivier Monfort, business manager (soda ash) for Solvay, one of the companies which lodged the original complaint.
