ISO/TC/SC 002 has drafted ISO/IWA (International Workshop Agreement) Glass Clarity - Tableware, Giftware, Jewellery, Luminaries - Glass Clarity - Classification and Test Method. The draft is not an ISO International Standard, but has been distributed for comments. The document is intended to provide a generic definition & classification of glass clarity to allow a global understanding of the consumer quality requirements, with the corresponding method to measure the glass clarity. For glass clarity, the spectrophotometric measurement is performed according to Technical Report "Colorimetry" from the CIE with a defined choice for illuminate & observer. Measurement on the sample in two different thicknesses allows the calculation of internal transmission for a defined intermediate thickness & gives then glass clarity irrespective to the RI value.
