High quality fire doors have many different characteristics that have to be fulfilled to influence housing comfort and safety at a high level. The goal for future development is the intelligent linking of characteristics in order to be able to offer a customer optimised product. However, new constructions require thorough development, examination and importantly for fire doors, provable testing and reliable test results. While the majority of builders' merchants stock and sell fire door components, they do not necessarily ensure that they stock the correct components for the doors they carry and only a minority of their counter staff have ever received training on fire doors. The result is often well meaning, yet incorrect advice. This could result in leaving the merchant liable if the fire door were ever to fail due to incompatible components.
